Howard County Invites Community Members to become part of Getting Ahead

Wed, 10/04/2017 - 12:01pm

Do YOU have a desire and the ambition to achieve a more secure future?

Over 200 Howard County residents have already graduated from this 8-week program, and YOU can, too!

Group begins Monday, October 2nd

Join a Getting Ahead group to:

  • investigate the hidden rules of poverty, middle class and wealth to identify what causes poverty and what changes it.
  • learn to build mental models of what life is like now and what you want it to be in the future.
  • work with a team to identify and organize ways to create stability and resources in your life.
  • make concrete plans for economic security and enjoy the power that comes from solving problems and being in control of your life.

How does a Getting Ahead group work?

  • A group is comprised of 10-15 people.
  • Sessions are 2 hours long and are held either at the Howard County MultiService Center or a location designated by the presenting host.
  • The group typically meets for 15 sessions; usually twice per week for 8 weeks.
  • Group members work with each other in a stimulating and respectful team environment.
  • A facilitator will help explore solutions and keep the group on track (but not tell you what to do).

All Getting Ahead members will receive:

  • $25 per session ($375 for all sessions);
  • assistance with child care and transportation;
  • accommodations, if needed, to be able to participate in the program.
